Our business is mostly producing clothing with OEM (original equipment manufacturer) services. How has the pandemic affected the fashion market, and how is your company dealing with the challenges?
During the pandemic times, companies are struggling with freight costs. The freight price is skyrocketing, so our clients are facing high shipping charges fees. To overcome this unfortunate situation, we are working on this daily basis to provide the best shipping prices to our clients, so they don’t have to pay a higher amount to a shipping company.
In addition, the actual global situation has made the prices go higher. For instance, the raw materials that we use to purchase have doubled from 2020 to 2022. For that reason, we are also trying to control the charges for raw materials – to make sure we can keep a competitive price.
Why is Pakistan a good place to manufacture apparel?
Pakistan produces the best cotton in the world. Apart from that, Pakistanis are, proudly, hard workers – they execute their jobs with perfection, with a strong teamwork culture. The country is the best place for producing apparel, surgical tools, sports goods, music instruments, and so on. Pakistani companies are working with very high reputed companies, such as Nike, Adidas, Puma, Fila, Jack and Jones and Alpinster. And it’s very honourable for me, that our city is producing footballs for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
What advice would you give new designers and start-up brands?
My advice for new designers and startup brands is: when you are working on any product, please share with your manufacturer a single part, and please try to make a file with all instructions. Also, work with honest manufacturers that will hold your business like your partners.

Garment Resources started as a textile buying agency in 2003 in Karachi, Pakistan. Founded by Adnan Abbas, who already had a working experience of 6 years in the textile industry of Pakistan, it is now a full-fledged garment manufacturing unit. From outsourcing the production to manufacturing woven goods, the transition happened in 2008. Lower MOQs also gives us the advantage of offering products to small brands and businesses, something, we feel, should be promoted. As an initiative to boost entrepreneurship, we are also actively involved in the production of garments for start-up companies. Not only do we provide a platform for them to experiment with their designs, but we also guide them in the industry from our experience of over 12 years.
